Box Office: 'Thor: The Dark World' an Early Hit Overseas


Chris Hemsworth's Thor is back with a vengeance.



Disney and Marvel Studios' sequel Thor: The Dark World has earned a stellar $45.2 million in its first three days of play internationally, where it began rolling out on Wednesday. By Sunday, the movie should have raced past the $100 million mark.


All told, the superhero tentpole is opening in 36 countries this weekend representing 70 percent of the international marketplace. Thor 2 opens in North America on Nov. 8.


BOX OFFICE: 'Ender's Game' Trumps Competition Friday With $9.9 Million 


Thor 2 delivered Disney a notable victory on Friday as the studio raced past the $2.3 billion mark in foreign grosses for the year, setting a new record for the studio.


So far, the U.K. leads with $7.8 million, followed by France with $5.8 million, Germany with $4.1 million and Australia with $29 million.


Major territories where Thor 2 isn't opening this weekend include China, Japan, Italy and Argentina.
