The injury bug has not been kind to Bellator MMA as of late as it has struck unofficial pairings as well. Multiple sources have reported that heavyweight Vinicius Kappke de Quieroz, aka Vinicius “Spartan,” has been bumped out of the heavyweight final with Cheick Kongo.
The two big men were originally supposed to meet in the finals of the heavyweight tournament at Bellator 106 prior to the announcement of Tito Ortiz’s neck injury. Kongo announced soon after the Ortiz injury press conference that the two were to fight at Bellator 107 via twitter:
#Bellator106, now that the PPV is cancelled, my fight is moved to Bellator 107, Nov 8, Thackerville and will be the MAIN EVENT @BellatorMMA
— Cheick Kongo (@kongo4real) October 26, 2013
What is next for Bellator MMA is up in the air at this point as “Spartan” could be out nearly a year. The promotion will likely announce their plans in the coming days.
